Name: Didecyl methylamine

CAS: 7396-58-9

Feature:

Didecyl methylamine is a tertiary amine. In the molecule of Didecyl methylamine, there are trivalent amines connected with three hydrocarbon groups. Didecyl methylamine appears as a clear slightly light yellow liquid with a fishlike odor. It is insoluble in water and has a density less than that of water. So it floats on the water. Contact with it may irritate skin, eyes and mucous membranes. It may be toxic if ingested, inhaled or absorbed through the skin. Didecyl methylamine is used in the manufacture of other chemicals. Dimethyldecyl tertiary amine neutralizes the acid in an exothermic reaction to form a salt and water. It may be incompatible with isocyanates, halogenated organics, peroxides, phenols (acidic), epoxides, acid anhydrides and acid halides. If it combined with strong reducing agents such as hydrides it may produce flammable gaseous hydrogen.

Didecyl methylamine is very versatile. It can be used as a component of formulated products and as an intermediate product of various special chemical derivatives. It is an important raw material for the production of quaternary ammonium salts.

Didecyl methylamine has the following applications/functions:

1. Didecyl methylamine is the main raw material for the production of cationic quaternary ammonium salt, which can be reacted with benzyl chloride to produce double-chain benzyl quaternary ammonium salt D1017. Didecyl methylamine is widely used in the industry of disinfectant and the bactericide. When used as a disinfectant, it can be used to control microbial pests on hard surfaces or clothing.

2. Didecyl methylamine can react with quaternized raw materials such as methyl chloride to form double-chain quaternary ammonium salt D1021. Didecyl methylaminee can be used as softener and surfactant, it is used in water treatment, veterinary medicine, disinfectant, oil field, textile, daily chemical and other industries.

3. Didecyl methylamine can also react with dimethyl sulfate and diethyl sulfate to form gemini quaternary ammonium salt.
