Name: Cis-13-Docosenoic acid

CAS: 112-86-7

Feature:

Cis-13-Docosenoic acid is a monounsaturated omega-9 fatty acid, denoted 22:1ω9. It has the chemical formula CH3(CH2)7CH=CH(CH2)11COOH. Cis-13-Docosenoic acid has a 22-carbon backbone and a single double bond originating from the 9th position from the methyl end, with the double bond in the cis- configuration. It is prevalent in wallflower seed and other plants in the family Brassicaceae, with a reported content of 20 to 54% in high Cis-13-Docosenoic acid rapeseed oil and 42% in mustard oil. Cis-13-Docosenoic acid is also known as cis-13-docosenoic acid and the trans isomer is known as brassidic acid.

In terms of molecular structure, Cis-13-Docosenoic acid is a long-chain unsaturated fatty acid composed of 22 carbon atoms, and it is also the natural fatty acid with the longest carbon chain that can be supplied in large quantities in the industry. It is not volatile and easy to agglomerate. Cis-13-Docosenoic acid olefinic bond is not conjugated with carbonyl double bond, can carry out some typical reactions of internal olefins, and has been widely used in industry.

Cis-13-Docosenoic acid has the following applications/functions:

1. Cis-13-Docosenoic acid has many of the same uses as mineral oils, but it is more readily biodegradable than some. It has limited ability to polymerize and dry for use in oil paints. Like other fatty acids, it can be converted into surfactants or lubricants, and can be used as a precursor to biodiesel fuel.

2. Derivatives of Cis-13-Docosenoic acid have many further uses, such as behenyl alcohol (CH3(CH2)21OH), a pour point depressant (enabling liquids to flow at a lower temperature), and silver behenate, for use in photography.

3. Cis-13-Docosenoic acid has few direct uses and is mainly used as an intermediate of fine chemicals to prepare various surfactants, lubricants, plasticizers, emulsifiers, softeners, water repellants, detergents, etc.

4. Cis-13-Docosenoic acid is used in the manufacture of man-made fibers, polyester and textile auxiliaries, PVC stabilizers, paint drying agents, surface coating resins and so on.
