Berberine HLC has long been used clinically as a heat-clearing, detoxifying and  antibacterial drug. It is commonly used in the treatment of bacillary dysentery, acute gastroenteritis, chronic cholecystitis, conjunctivitis, suppurative otitis media and other diseases, with significant curative effects. Berberine hydrochloride is an isoquinoline alkaloid, which exists in many plants of 4 families and 10 genera, including Berberiaceae. Berberine can precipitate yellow needle-like crystals from ether. Berberine is a quaternary ammonium alkaloid, and its salts have relatively low solubility in water.Berberine HLC has been used clinically as an over-the-counter drug to treat diarrhea, but modern pharmacological studies have confirmed that berberine HLC has significant anti-heart failure, anti-arrhythmic, lower cholesterol, anti-vascular smooth muscle proliferation, improvement of insulin resistance, anti-platelet, and anti-inflammatory Therefore, it may have a wide range of important application prospects in cardiovascular system and nervous system diseases.

Berberine HLC has the following applications/functions:

1. Berberine hydrochloride has antibacterial effects on hemolytic streptococcus, Staphylococcus aureus, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Freund and Shigella dysentery, and has the effect of enhancing the phagocytosis of leukocytes. Berberine hydrochloride has been widely used in the treatment of gastroenteritis, bacillary dysentery, etc. It also has a certain effect on tuberculosis, scarlet fever, acute tonsillitis and respiratory infections.
2. Berberine hydrochloride is effective in treating gastroenteritis, bacterial dysentery and other intestinal infections, conjunctivitis, and suppurative otitis media. Recently, it has also been found that this product has the effect of blocking α-receptors and anti-arrhythmia.Oral berberine can activate AMPK (adenosine monophosphate activated protein kinase) to promote glucose metabolism, fat metabolism, etc., enhance glucose tolerance and inhibit fat synthesis.
3. Berberine hydrochloride has strong anti-tumor activity in vivo and in vitro and can induce differentiation of B16 cells; it has a synergistic effect with cytarabine hydrochloride in vitro.Clinical studies have shown that oral berberine at a dose of 1000 mg/day for 3 consecutive months can reduce total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (“bad” cholesterol) and triglycerides by 25-35%.
