N,N-Dimethyl octanamide is an amide, which is a compound in which the hydroxyl group of the carboxyl group in the carboxylic acid molecule is replaced by an amino group or a hydrocarbon amino group (-NHR or -NR2). N,N-Dimethyl octanamide can dissolve not only organic compounds, but also many inorganic compounds. It is a good solvent. N,N-Dimethyl octanamide belongs to a unique class of disubstituted amides. The molecular formula of N,N-Dimethyl octanamide is C10H21NO, and the molecular mass is 171.28. Its density is 0.865g/cm³. N,N-Dimethyl octanamide has a mild amine odor. Contact with it may irritate skin, eyes and mucous membranes. It may be toxic if ingested, inhaled or absorbed through the skin. N,N-Dimethyl octanamide is used in the manufacture of other chemicals.
N,N-Dimethyl octanamide is toxic. Inhalation, ingestion or skin contact with material may cause severe injury or death. Contact with molten substance may cause severe burns to skin and eyes. Avoid any skin contact. Effects of contact or inhalation may be delayed. Fire may produce irritating, corrosive and/or toxic gases. Runoff from fire control or dilution water may be corrosive and/or toxic and cause pollution.
N,N-Dimethyl octanamide has the following applications/functions:
1. N,N-Dimethyl octanamide has fixed hydrophilic and lipophilic groups, which can be aligned on the surface of the solution. It can significantly reduce the surface tension of the target solution. So it can be used as a surfactant.
2. N,N-Dimethyl octanamide can be used as organic synthesis solvent for medicine, veterinary medicine, pesticide and cosmetics.
3. N,N-Dimethyl octanamide can also be used as an intermediate in organic synthesis.
4. N,N-Dimethyl octanamide is a possible additive in the production of clothing fibers.
5. N,N-Dimethyl octanamide is also used in the production of industrial coatings, polyimide films, mold release agents and ink removers.
