S-Adenosil-L-Methionine (SAMe)——Protective agent for liver

S-adenosine-L-methionine (SAMe) is an important bioactive molecule in organisms. S-adenosine-L-methionine, also known as adenosylmethionine, is an active form of methionine, which widely exists in animals and plants. It is synthesized by substrate L-methionine and adenosine triphosphate (ATP) catalyzed by S-adenosylmethionine synthase (ec2.5.1.6). Sam is closely related to many metabolic processes in human body. As long as the bioavailability of adenosylmethionine in the liver is within the normal range, these reactions help to prevent intrahepatic cholestasis.

S-adenosine-L-methionine has preventive and therapeutic effects on liver cancer. It is an important physiologically active substance widely existing in plants, animals and microorganisms. It has the effects of trans methyl, trans thio and trans aminopropyl. It participates in more than 40 biochemical reactions in vivo and is closely related to the biosynthesis of protein, nucleic acid, neurotransmitter, phospholipid and vitamin. In addition, it is also involved in the biotransformation of polyamines and glutathione.Studies have shown that s-adenosine-L-methionine has a protective effect on acute liver function damage afterinterventional chemoembolization of primary liver cancer.
